We’ve got your back this summer! Celebrated on Mooloolaba Beach between 8am and 10am on December 14, 2019 was the inaugural Australia’s Biggest Bakslap – a family friendly free event at Mooloolaba Beach, Sunshine Coast Queensland. Participants were encouraged to be part of Australia’s Biggest Sunscreen Challenge, where we aimed to have 2000 people simultaneously applying sunscreen for 3 minutes. We all showed our community is serious about sun safety as we kicked off summer. There were also a variety of fun activities for all ages with prizes and special offers from local businesses available to all those who attend.
Australia’s Biggest Bakslap brings together Aussies around the country to support the melanoma community. It’s an opportunity to be part of a fun sunscreen challenge, enjoy summer responsibly, whilst making sun safety easy and accessible.
The event marks the beginning of summer, a time we enjoy the sunshine and holidays with family at our beautiful beaches. It’s about raising awareness to keep your skin protected during this summer.
We aimed to have 2000 people creating a powerful statement for the rest of Australia that here on the Sunshine Coast we’re all about #EnjoyingSummerResponsibly. For 3 minutes to formally apply to yourself and your mate. This was the first time it was done in Australia, and we set the number to beat! SunSense has you covered and provided the free sunscreen.

Bakslap Founder Raph McGowan sadly lost his sister Tess to melanoma skin cancer in 2012. The Melanoma was found on her back, in one of those typically hard to reach places. Tess passed away at age 31.
Since her death, Raph has made it his mission to rid the world of this terrible disease. In 2017 bakslap was born. It’s a unique sunscreen & lotion applicator that allows you to apply to those hard to reach places like your back. It ensures you protect your entire body, without getting messy hands!
To complement the bakslap message, this summer Raph is embarking on a new mission: Australia’s Biggest Bakslap. This event will allow all Aussies to get behind Raph, bakslap and each other.
