First learning to surf a shortboard at the age of 6 and at 12 years old moved over to Fiji, which allowed her to experience some of the best reef breaks in the world. Competing in mostly shortboard events throughout school she then got into longboarding.
Now a professional longboarder on the WSL World Tour. Surf coach and fitness trainer with a degree in Business and Sports & Exercise Science. Wow!

“We’ve been following Kirra’s journey for a while and it made perfect sense to invite Kirra to become an ambassador. She is young role model in her local community and around to world to many.
She has found her passion in surfing but just as important in helping others. Kirra somehow finds the time, but her side business is teaching all-levels to surf and functional training of other high performance athletes and volunteer of several charities.”

“Our job at bakslap is simple: Share the amazing work Kirra does and support her to find new partnerships, industry connections & financially, on her path to winning a World Surfing Title!!”
-Raph, bakslap founder
Originally from South Australia, my family moved to Noosa, Sunshine Coast when I was about 2 years old, so I grew up surfing the points and beach breaks. I’ve always loved dabbling in a range of activities from surfing, tennis, golf and playing piano. When I graduated high school I studied a Bachelor in Business & Bachelor in Sport & Exercise Science at University of the Sunshine Coast, from there I found what I loved and just fell into the work that I do now.
I run my own surf coaching and fitness business, I know a lot about surfboard design after working at Classic Malibu and am now sponsorship by them 🙂
The past few years I have competed on the WSL World Longboard Tour all round the world. I have previously won gold in shortboard and longboard surfing at both State and Australian Surf Lifesaving Titles and enjoy riding both boards whatever the conditions hold. I love what I do!
“I have to be in the water for hours each day but I was taught from a very early age the importance of protecting my skin and keeping sun safe. I love bakslap’s ultra-modern approach to sun safety. That we all can enjoy the sun, just do so responsibly”
There was an awesome Q&A with Kirra done recently by the local Noosa media team ‘Boom Shankar’.
What feeling do you get when being in the water?
“It’s a feeling of excitement…. When I see a good set coming it’s as if I can feel the joy it will bring before even catching the wave. The ocean also is a place to clear my head and find some focus, away from my calendar and the rest of the business that life creates.

#MakeAWave Challenge – Kirra surfed for 30 days straight to make an impact for SurfAid who support families in remote surf communities to access basic healthcare, clean water, sanitation and food security.
Noosa World Surf Reserve – Kirra has been an team member for years, “proactively identify, designate and preserve outstanding waves, surf zones and surrounding environments around the world”. This year, the #NWSR got behind bakslap and our local Melanoma March event. A wonderful team effort 🙂
